The Accreditation Commission for Health Care, Inc. (ACHC) is an independent, private, not-for-profit corporation established in 1986. The North Carolina Association for Home Care created the program, Inc. in response to provider concerns for quality in-home aide services and the desire for an alternative program.
ACHC offers an accreditation program developed by providers for providers with emphasis on quality, user-friendly standards and interpretation, friendly helpful staff and surveyors. ACHC accredits multi-service Medicare certified and non certified home health agencies, home infusion companies, home care aide programs, home medical equipment suppliers, hospices and companies that specialize in services and products for post breast surgery patients.
ACHC has gained respect and recognition as an accrediting body that ensures a "voice" for providers. It has adopted a participatory approach to standards development that has resulted in criteria that are high in quality, reasonable in application and user friendly in language. ACHC emphasizes the philosophy that the accreditation process should be a helpful, positive experience for the provider.
We expect considerable growth in the home care industry for many more years. The current climate in the country shows a strong interest in competition with accreditation. Due to this interest, ACHC began offering its services nationwide in 1996.
